I Love Fall

Fall

Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;

Are Sunflowers Nerdy?

Sunflowers are one of the species that originated in North America. They were probably one of the first cultivated crops by Native Americans around 1000 B.C.E. Europeans took the sunflowers around the world during 1500 C.E. Otherwise called helianthus, are adored for the bright and cheery disposition, also a food source to bees, squirrels, birds, and humans. They are the great inspiration to the impressionist painters, especially Vincent Van Gogh. Have spent hours staring at Philadelphia Museum of Art. Later bought a stained glass replica from the gift shop. In 2013, read that they are wilting and out of whim painted one.

I can never get enough of sunflowers. When this spring arrived, I sowed and it bloomed.

In My Garden

In My Garden

I finally understood why I’m fascinated with sunflowers. Did you know that sunflowers has a perfect geometry based on Fibonacci sequence? Golden Angle in geometry is the smaller of the angle created by sectioning the circumference of the circle according to the golden ratio – that is if their ratio is the same as the ratio of their sum to the larger of the two quantities:

a+b        a
—–   =  —
a            b

This theory plays a significant role in phyllotaxis – the arrangement of leaves on a stem. The most notable golden angle is the angle that separates the florets on a sunflower. They are just as nerdy as I can get.

I do not duplicate masters for the same reason it is from masters and it should only be seen and admired; not to be spoil the original beauty. This was irresistible. Technically I didn’t duplicate because it is only a pencil sketch and not oil 😉 Il bacio (The Kiss) is an 1859 painting by Francesco Hayez. This is his best known work that conveys the main features of Romanticism.

The Kiss - Mercy

The Kiss – Mercy

You swallowed everything, like distance.

Like the sea, like time.

In you everything sank!

It was the happy hour of assault and the kiss.

The hour of the spell that blazed like a lighthouse.

Pilot’s dread, fury of a blind diver,

Turbulent drunkenness of love,

In you everything sank!

―Pablo Neruda

You and I

Painting in the Chinese traditional style is known as guó huà, meaning “national” or “native” painting. Traditional painting has the same techniques as calligraphy and is done with a brush dipped in black or colored ink on silk or paper. Shui-mo is Chinese for Ink and wash painting; also loosely termed brush painting is done “xie yi” or freehand style. This is also known as “literati painting”, as it was one of the “Four Arts” of the Chinese Scholar-official class.

I Love NY

I like to work on animate objects for my art work until one day I landed on Stephen Wiltshire gallery. There is life in his cityscape that pulsates different mood. Autism could not stop him from soaring up to sky and draw the most famous cityscape in the world. He did astonishing 18 feet of New York just after a 20 minute helicopter ride from memory at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn.

I made the one above from the photos that I’ve collected over years… Somebody should have warned me about it – the profound effect that New York evokes on one for the first time – it was love at first sight 🙂

A Perfect Date

I got this book “How to Draw Cartoons?” in May… It was very interesting trying to try various facial expressions with simple strokes. Poppy however claims she can draw better whereas I can only paint. When I put together and showed it to her, she went like “girl looks like you…” 😉 Any resemblance to living or dead is purely coincidental 😉 😛

I don’t know how to take a photo that shows fine lines well 😦

Crouching Dragon

Touched my paint brush after a long time… A Chinese dragon with the letter “Fu” (good fortune) and the good luck symbol infinity. It was on handmade paper with fabric colors.
